Stupid TV

Why do they feel it is necessary to interrupt my shows to tell us it is raining?  Like I couldn't open a window and see that for myself?

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
They want you to watch their weather report later.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
or they just like to hear themselves talk...

And why do they never interrupt commercials? They always manage to return us to our regularly scheduled program just in time for the commerical break

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
ads are how they make their money. shows are just their way getting you to watch the commercials.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
good point. Of course if we've changed the channel because we were annoyed with their constant interruptions than the advertisers aren't going to be getting their money's worth

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
I hate when the local channels do stuff like that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so damn annoying. and it's not like they'll wind up getting the weather report right later or anything!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
actually, what's hysterical is that in MN they actually do the main weather reports OUTSIDE. No matter the weather (almost) and sometimes they STILL get it wrong

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I rarely watch. Unless the weather's terrible because then they all look like they want to murder the producer for making them stand out there

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL...I think that's usually the only time any weather report is interesting.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
lord knows that other than mocking the weathermen there is NO reason to watch.

They are all liars. It's the only job where you can be wrong 75% of the time, sometimes massively so, and NOT get sued or fired

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's especially funny when they make them go hang out in blizzards. They like to do that whenever it's snowing really bad on the mountain pass, here.

Kind of makes you want the job.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
We get that here. They're all bundled up in these huge winter coats, with snow collecting on the hoods and their noses are read and you can see their breath and they tell us it's snowing and probably will continue to snow for awhile. Thanks. I'd never have known that without their input

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL...that's probably exactly what they're thinking.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
yet the weathermen still get paid to tell us

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really know if I hope they get paid well...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it'd be depressing to learn how much they get paid. Especially on those days where they said it would be sunny so you've planned outdoor things and it rains all day

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true. One of those things it's best not to know.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
And I love when they comment on how wrong they were the other day, "well, oops, we thought it would do this but Mother Nature did the exact opposite, who would have guessed?" Welll, we were hoping, since you had a degree and fancy computers and all, that you WEREN'T guessing!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
We were hoping you were using science, here, but apparently not.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
First winter in MN they predicted a light dusting of snow, maybe up to 3 inched. we got 33 inches. They were off by TWO AND A HALF FEET. and kept their jobs. unreal.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's become infamous- the "Halloween Snowstorm" lasted three days.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
massively. We got another snowstorm for thansgiving too. It was a very snowy year.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Did it at least snow during December, too?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
probably- I don't remember, for the most part, once you get a big snowfall it sticks around and you have snow cover till March

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Except for in Seattle, where it's usually gone within a week.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
that was how snow was in NY where I grew up. I like MN better- if it is gonna be cold at least it'll be pretty

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
WA isn't the same all over?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. It's actually much more likely to accumulate the further east you go. Spokane gets the most.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
oh- away from the ocean and closer to the mountains, makes sense. is that where you're from?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm more from the central part of Washington, but two of my brothers went to college in Spokane and the oldest one lives there, now. He always calls and mocks me when he sees it's "snowing" in Seattle.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
snowing in seattle= less than 1" accumulation?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially considering that, meanwhile, he's usually sitting in several inches worth that has been there for most of the week.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe they did that! If they interrupted programs over here to tell you it was raining we'd never see anything, especially in the North West (we get most of the rain in England in the North West; my mum lives near a place called Wet Sleddale).

*cuddles the BBC and its commercial-less programs*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
you are So lucky. Here they interrupt shows at the srop of a hat. It's annoying. Necessary occasionally (i.e. theres a tornado on it's way) but other times? No thank you

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
They loooove to feel oh so important. Here at least a few of the channels have learned to put their info around the sides of the screen, and make the show smaller, so at least we can watch our shows while they blather.
