My cat just meowered in his sleep, jolted himself awake and proceeded to fall off the chair he was sleeping on.

I should feel bad for laughing at him.

He did do the "lick paw, flick ear- I SO meant to do that" routine as soon as he fell. He tried *so* hard to act nonchalant. Silly kitty.

The cat version's probably the half closed eye and semi-yawn of disgust, I think.

I'm trying to think of a time he's fallen off something. He occasionally misses his leap up to the bathroom sink. He doesn't really react at all, just gazes at me and tries again. Though I have caught him doing the quick shift into "Oh, I just wanted to groom myself anyway."

Nah laugh and enjoy the cat. My dogs, cats and ferrets all do similar things. It is harmless amusement. Unless of course you are tickling them till they fall off:)

My cat does not understand tickling. He thinks you want him to play attack the hand.

Yup and then your hand ends up looking like you stuck it in a gorse bush.. but its worth it for the satisfaction the cat gets for "beating your hand into submission"
