Hurray for customer service ineptitude

I was on the phone with the customer service of a very fancy jewelry company earlier today to return a present my daughter got.  Their policy is that, since the bracelet arrived broken, shipping is free within the US.

"Where do you live, Ma'am?"

"Minnesota."

"I'm afraid that will require international shipping charges then."

"Why?  It's a state."

"A state of what?"

*headdesk*

I don't really write for the Master because I can't get into his head. What's his motivation? What's his big plan?

I've asked my flist that before and the answer seems to be 'he's crazy' which is a lameass answer and doesn't give any real motivation for his character

I've always been of the opinion that he just wanted to make the Doctor's life miserable.

have you watched much oldschool? There- yes, making the Doctor's life hell was certainly fun, but his evil plans had points. And if he miscalculated and almost unravelled time and space, well that wasn't his intent, but oh well

Villains were so much simpler back in the day.

and snappy dressers (the Master's velvet outfit? *snickers*)

Most definitely (those were the days, eh?).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
but they made it work for them. And every bad guy has to have their "thing" that makes them stand out

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. They just don't give them that sort of thing, anymore.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
which is boring.

Well, maybe Bilis - he had the cravat of doom after all

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Bilis was kind of awesome. Did you ever read the novel that had him in it?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No I haven't. I read 2 of the earlier books (of the four originally released) and was pretty unhappy with both so I haven't bothered with the newer books. Is it good?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've kind of noticed it's something of a fan favorite. It's the one called "The Twilight Streets". I wasn't quite as impressed as everyone else, but Bilis is so fun. Plus, Ianto rips Gwen a new one, so that alone made the whole thing worth my time.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
well, my library has it so I put in a request for it- can't hurt to try reading it anyway. thanks. (and Ianto ripping into Gwen wasn;t remotely a reason for checking it out. really)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely can't hurt if it's free. (It's a fantastic moment, and she totally deserved it.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
free is my favorite price!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here! And you just reminded me that I still have a free coffee voucher.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-13 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG free coffee!!! USE IT!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I most definitely will...and I will get the biggest coffee possible.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
with an extra shot of espresso too?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
only probably? I'm shocked

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
*phew* now that's more like it

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
It would be pretty pointless not to, I suppose, considering I get my absolute drink of choice with this thing.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
absolutely! So what'll it be?
