Jack? Please shut up. You're supposed to be in a tale of intrigue and aliens, not having tea with a giggling four year old. Remember the mystery? The reason this whole stupid story is being written in the first place? Do you think you can address that part sometime this century?

In one story I wrote, I wrote a chapter and then realised that nothing plotwise happened in the chapter, but I couldn't cut it out because Harry really needed to go and do that and in the end, it I was able to use it as a little aside that made him feel less alone.
So maybe Jack really needs to have some tea? Or he's being a jerk, whatever. You can always cut that part out later if it's not working.

If it helps, think of 'real' novels - there's always dead ends and bits of fun to help ease the drama or taunt the reader a bit. So, let Jack have his tea (especially since it sounds sooo adorable!) and things will work out alright in the end.
