Jack?  Please shut up.  You're supposed to be in a tale of intrigue and aliens, not having tea with a giggling four year old.  Remember the mystery?  The reason this whole stupid story is being written in the first place?  Do you think you can address that part sometime this century?

Plot=hard.  Tea and crumpets=fun.  *sigh*

(They are actually cookies, his host (a 4 year old american girl) is merely calling them crumpets. "cause you can't have a proper tea without crumpets.")

Scoooooooones are better. With jam and cream. Fact.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only ever had scary, crappy scones, so I wouldn't know.

The setting (at the moment) is 50's america. I doubt you could get scones there then

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Awh. If I thought it would be fresh by the time it got to you, I'd snail-mail you a scone from work.

Still. Cookies are good!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
cookies are good. Especially when involving chocolate in some manner

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...You're really bad for my teeth, you know that?

*Hunts for chocolate*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
so I should start posting about toothbrushes now?

*ponders* not quite as interesting or as much fun

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* I wouldn't actually change you for anything. Although my dentist would. If I ever went to one.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
going to dentists is important (not that I can talk, I haven't been in ages)

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a fundamental dislike of people who take money off me and then cause me pain.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
lol- good point there.

ugh- this tea party and it's randomness is nearly 1000 words now!

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fine! It sounds fun.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
have to read the lead up yet? I'd love any feedback/opinions on what worked or needed tightening or tweaking, etc

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's on my 'stuff to do asap' list! Once this last bloody exam is out of the way, I'll have more time to read.

depends on where Jack is. New York has always prided itself on its culinary knowledge. Also lots of Europeans visit NY. I'm scones could be found there in the '50s

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
NYC maybe, I grew up on Long Island (which happens, for other reasons, to be where this part of the story is set) and don't remember there being any bakeries that made anything 'fancy' like scones

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Scones are the best!! especially if they are warm! smithy want to start a scone appreciation society?

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a plan!

I love cheese scones the best, actually. Mmm. Yummy.

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
cheese scones? is that a filling or part of the dough? cheese danish are great, especially those with blueberry as well.

speaking of pastry, have you ever had a blintz?

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Part of it, and a bit on top. Very nice, warm with butter.

Never even heard of a blintz!

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
they're a jewish delicacy. think of a rolled crepe in a small cylinder with cheese filled and fried til crispy.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
i never heard of cheese scones!

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Sooo, do you prefer strawberry jam on your scones or what? I personally like blackcurrant... rhubarb jam is just plain wrong on scones.

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Raspberry for me please!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-01-15 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
rhubarb jam is too similar to rhubarb pie filling *snicker*
