Arguing Semantics

According to the advertisement the local supermarket had cantaloupes on sale, but I didn't see them anywhere.  So I asked a person working in the produce section where the cantaloupes would be.  He pointed to a large bin.  I went and looked, but the bin was empty.  I went back and said to him "there aren't any cantaloupes there!"  to which he responded, "Well, you asked where the cantaloupes would be.  That's where the cantaloupes would be if we had any, but we don't, we're all out."

I did not expect a lesson in semantics at 10 at night in the grocery store!

especially since we won't get a proper season of either show in 2009

but I have MAJOR doubts. They built up the end of e12 in ways that they just can't keep things going and have me satisfied for e13 unless things happen that I can't fathom actually happening.

And if there is one more Doctor=God/Jesus reference I WILL kill someone

Exactly.

And I'm with you on the references bit.

I know I shouldn't expect any different from RTD (did you ever see his miniseries "second Coming"? ) but still. It's gotten old.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. You'd think he'd get the picture by now.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently not. He seemed to think Rose was the best thing since sliced bread and Jack wasn't all that useful on DW. moron

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He should have at least seen the value of Jack for his level of gorgeousness.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
absolutely. At least he did write that "what are you doing, stet radiation doesn't affect clothing" scene, but... dumbass that he is had Jack keep his tshirt on

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
think about how many times Gene Roddenbury managed to get Kirk's shirt off. and RTD's managed it for Jack, what, twice?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, funny you should mention that, I just watched an old episode of Star Trek on the CW.

As a gay man, you'd think RTD would want to get Jack's shirt off as much as possible. Actually, I would think even a straight man would want to get JB's shirt off...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
RTD should be ashamed of himself, body like Jack's

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Here, here.

Did you watch the episode, yet?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I had about the same reaction. I loved Jack's line, "You do not want to know what I'm thinking right now". I apparently set the bar low enough, though, because I wasn't disappointed by anything except the trailer for the Christmas special.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I turned it off before the trailer, but went back when people were talking about it. I hate them as much as Daleks. *sigh*

I didn't set the bar low enough. Hubby was annoyed at how much I yelled at Rose.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. I mean, they've gotten rid of them enough times.

For me, the idiocy of Rose was more than made up for by the awesomeness of the rest of them, especially Donna...and I really loved that scene with ALL of them together, where Donna's being all superior (and hugging Jack).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Donna's interest in Jack was wonderful. But too much was annoying and whiny Mary Sue self-centered Rose was far far too frustrating and asinine for my tastes.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I did kind of want to kick Rose in the end.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
absolutely! Especially when she was all pouty.

(notice she didn't care AT ALL that Mickey wasn't returning with her? selfish bitch)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I, on the other hand, CHEERED when Mickey decided to stay. I mean, seriously, wouldn't Mickey in Torchwood be the most amazing thing ever?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
is MU working for you? It seems awfully slow for me- still at 0%

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's just going ridiculously slow. I hate to see how long it's gonna take when I try to upload.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, at least it's not just me and my 'puter. *SIGH* stupid MU.

oooh, 8 min in and up to 1%!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is saying it's gonna take five hours. NOOOOOO!
