Well this was supposed to be post of fic but *gah* so instead you get post of randomness of the humor and weird variety.

Driving home from work yesterday  I saw a guy on a motorcycle in full Scottish garb- the kilt, the sporran, everything.  I'm assuming he was on his way down to the Renaissance Festival, but the kilt was whipping around in the wind and I could only imagine the windburn he was going to get.

I thought it would be the weirdest thing I saw this week.  I was wrong.   Driving home from dropping daughter off this evening I stopped for a woman in a crosswalk walking what I thought was an ugly dog and carrying a teddy bear.  Nope.  She was carrying a little dog thing (not sure the breed but tiny and poofy and yippy) and walking a CAT.  A rather pissed off looking gray Persiany-looking cat on a green leash.

It was quite a weird thing to see.  Although, considering I got stuck working late because I spent 20 minutes explaining to someone one how 60 is MORE than 45 rather than less, maybe ending on a weird note is a good thing.

Oh boy, I hope he wasn't wearing the *completely* traditional garb! Or, um, not wearing, if you know what I mean.

Bwah! Walking a cat on a leash is weird enough - I have done it, though not in anywhere as busy as a crosswalk! - but carrying a dog at the same time? Hilariously weird. Was the dog a Pomeranian by any chance? (Here's a more ridiculous picture. Heh.)

I'm sorry the fic didn't work out for tonight.

from what I could see (or didn't see) yes, it was traditional garb, but, it was the highway and I wasn't looking all that close. (on purpose mind you!)

It might have been a Pom. It fit right in the crook of the woman's arm- are they that small?

Some days I swear the muse is just messing with you. *sigh*

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently Poms can be as small as 3 pounds, which doesn't surprise me given the growing popularity of purse dogs - they're probably breeding them smaller and smaller.

Heh. I wouldn't have been looking at the kilted cyclist very closely either!

::pats you:: I hope the muse is behaving better tomorrow!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
why have a dog that small? Or walk a cat? *shakes head* best not to think about that sort of thing too much, right? It'll only wind up hurting the brain.

poor doggie. Dogs aren't supposed to be smaller than cats. My brain just has difficulties with the picture of a 3 pound dog and 13 pound cat together in the same household.

I hope mr muse listens to you. the [livejournal.com profile] bringthehappy promptfest might help. Sometimes all you need is the right prompt. Or a nice brickwall to smack your head into.

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
If The X-Files can be trusted (and in this case I find it believable), some people live in places with rules about how many pounds of "pet" you're allowed to own, and I know others are scared and intimidated by any dog that's bigger than a medium sized cat. But I was raised with big, doggy dogs so I have trouble thinking of the teeny ones as full dogs - they sort of seem like, well, toys, albeit toys with a lot of personality. I guess that's how the group got its name. *g*

My brain just has difficulties with the picture of a 3 pound dog and 13 pound cat together in the same household.

Heh. I'd be afraid my cat would accidentally injure the dog or intimidate it to death.

Prompts can be good! I'm freaking out a little over how short the Happyfest deadline is, but I just need to remember I've done drabbles in less than a week before. I certainly value a good brick wall to smack my head into from time to time, but I try to discourage my friends from it. :) ::hands you pillows::

awww, there's that icon again!

I grew up with a big dog too- a german sheppard. I know a lot of people love small dogs, but.... not for me. Unless I find one that needs me, I guess.

I want to get more animals- a dog or another cat, but fuzzbutt's too old and set in his ways. And cutting off the blood supply to my feet at the moment (he's taken over my lap and part of my keyboard)

With the right prompt/idea I can write a drabble in no time at all. Even longer stories can be a breeze. But it depends on so many factors and how deep the story is. Something light is easier than finding the right tone of something dark or deep

maybe we should just chow down on donuts instead?

I probably would've crashed the car if I'd seen the kilted cyclist.

I feel this comment really needs this icon.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*snerk* appropriate icon usage! I have to admit I was glad I saw the cyclist on a straight portion of the highway, if it had been in the curvy section I might not have faired so well

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you're alone on that one.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I just can't fathom it made for a comfortable ride

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My biggest animal double take was when I bumped into a rabbit on a lead, closely followed by the Goth with ferrets on a 'dog' walk...

Man on bike in kilt *snorfle* but was it a proper plaid (or Great Kilt) or just a poor-man's kilt. I've 'helped' a couple of blokes get into their plaid (I stood there laughing at them rolling on the floor) and I'm still alive to tell the tale!

Oh and can I offer the muse chocolate? *proffers chocolate* may be sprinkled on donuts for the full effect *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
oh my, walking rabbits and ferrets?

It looked like a proper kilt to me, but I'm not all that versed in the way of a kilt, despite going to a college with a strong scottish heritage (we had bagpipes!)

chocolate is always well loved *munches* thanks!

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose I should make it clear that I didn't see the rabbit-on-a-lead and the goth-with-ferret on the same day. There's a pic of the ferret here (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3249/2461603452_1fd6a4ee1a.jpg) as proof!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
oh that is all kinds of adorable!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-08-23 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I have attempted to walk a cat on a leash before, does that count? Not, admittedly, while carrying a frou frou dog. Motorcycles and kilts seem like a very bad combination. *g*

Sorry the fic is not cooperating, though! *pets you*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Were you actually taking the cat out for a drag then?

Fuzzbutt had a leash when we lived in an apartment, but we carried him outside and then held it while he snorted around in the grass. it's not like he obeyed any commands with it on anything- it was drag city if we tried.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-08-23 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I took him for a slink. *g* And yeah, that's exactly what it was, an apartment thing. But with the harness on, he'd creep around low to the ground like the thing was heavy. And getting it off him was murder. Getting it on him was easier, but getting it off? He'd escape with it halfway off, all tangled up in it, and here I am crawling under the bed to try to get it off him before he strangled himself...it wasn't pretty. So I gave up on that before too long.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
ah yes, trying to remove it and suddenly you discover kitty has 17 arms much more squiggle ability then you ever imagined. We gave up too after a bit.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? 60 vs 45?? *snort*
Love the weirdness you saw.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
oh yeah. They'd signed up for a single adult membership and paid the year in full at sign up (540/yr or $45 a mth) and a few months in wanted to switch to a family membership (720/yr or $60 a month). We said, No prob just pay for the difference (the $15 difference for the months left on the membership)- they argued we owed THEM money.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2008-08-28 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No, really? *snort*

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-08-28 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I will not be wearing a skirt on the back of the bike in Switzerland so I am safe :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-08-28 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
probably a good thing. no, scratch that, definitely a good thing
