Random NCIS complaint

What would Ziva write a letter to her father in English?

side note- Polygraph chick is CREEPY

[identity profile] kaylashay.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
The letter thing... Yeah... I was telling that to the TV when she started it.

And the whole 'become an NCIS agent' thing... What the heck about her not being a US Citizen!!??

And the next ep looks kind of scary on the Ziva-ness front. *sigh*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
GAH that bugged me so much!!! (The NCIS agent thing) As you showed with 3 seconds of digging, there are REQUIREMENTS to being an agent. Not to mention that whole citizenship thing *grumbles*

Next week looks TERRIBLE *whines*

[identity profile] kaylashay.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
I know... *pouts, whines, pouts*

How they can overlook the citizenship thing is beyond me. There's dramatic license, but that's taking it a bit too far.

I was wondering that, too.

Also, I'm waffling between creepy and not creepy on the lady.

[identity profile] kaylashay.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I waffled for a moment from 'aww she has a crush on Timmy' to 'creepy in a serial killer kind of way'.

Timmy better watch out.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
So she wound up using the test to apparently flirt with Tim... kind of stalker-esque

Kind of, yes.
Also, competent!Tony wins!

Why didn't they either accept Ziva back completely or go with someone else. This storyline has jumped the shark. Originally she was a liaison officer from the Mossad.

With the exception of the premiere I'm disliking the 7th season.

The A storyline was incredibly stupid as well. I know lots of blogger and none of 'em would kill to build a rep. You build a rep by posting accurate info and links often.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Storylines have never been NCIS strong suit, but they're putting less and less thought into them *sigh*

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
It seems to me that they are trying to turn Ziva into someone else. If they want someone else hire another actress, or at least, a new character name.

she wouldn't. Unfortunately most CBS viewers can't read Hebrew so they wouldn't know what she wrote.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Or/And it didn't even occur to tptb at NCIS to have it in Hebrew...

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Hebrew keyboards are inexpensive and could be rented for the duration of the shoot.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Stupid plot. Stupid to use "Arnett" and not have it go back to "Leap of Faith". Stupid that no one else asked what train the guys rode (I was yelling it at the screen as soon as we learned they both commuted). Stupid that Ziva's apparently too stupid to read the fucking NCIS FAQ that tells you you've got to be a citizen. Stupid that Gibbs is also now apparently too stupid to have told her that on the spot and handed her freakin' application back to her. Oh, and stupid that DC Metro was investigating a federal agency. Where the hell was the FBI?

You know, I didn't even notice the letter thing, but now that you've mentioned it, it doesn't make sense. It's like this one episode of CSI:NY where they made a big deal about one character not being able to speak English well and then when his daughter came to say goodbye at the morgue, she was speaking in English to him, in her heavy Russian accent. I mean, hello! We are perfectly capable of reading subtitles.

They could have showed us the letter in Hebrew and we would have figured it out later on when she mentioned writing to her father. Or who else would she be writing to in Hebrew? Apparently the writers subscribe to the viewers are morons (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ViewersAreMorons) theory.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
NCIS is also horribly inconsistent in what she calls her dad. So far (in the order I remember): Abba (Hebrew for father, points to NCIS), Papa (erm, makes no sense whatsoever considering it's never a nickname for father in Hebrew or Yiddish), Eli (really? His first name?) and now Father. Give me a break.

lol at the tvtropes theory!

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. I could wank it and say that because she's upset with her father and trying to pull away from her old life, she's using her second language to emphasize that, to drive home the difference.

But I suspect it's because the audience wouldn't have been able to read the Hebrew and they didn't want to take the trouble to provide a two word subtitle.

Dear NCIS: more Abby please!

ETA - I thought the paper that turned out to be an NCIS application was going to be a citizenship application. That would have made more sense.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-07 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, you've managed to figure out a vague explanation for the letter being in English. GO YOU!

NCIS definitely needs more Abby :)

Yeah... the paper being an NCIS application when she's not a US citizen makes little sense. (I'm suspecting a handywavy of doom approaching)

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-10 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Particularly considering she's just mastered contractions.

AGREED.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-10 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
There's also the issue that being fired/let go from somewhere isn't as easy as writing a dear john letter. I hate how the writers think we are stupid

(Like her wanting to join NCIS without being a US citizen. OR having a 1982 birthdate. That makes her 27. I don't think so!)

My Version of her letter....

Dear Father,

I have done as you asked and requested forgiveness from the team members at NCIS.

Unfortunately it seems that these Americans are a lot less forgiving than we had expected given the extremely slack standards to which they apply. Military discipline, as a concept, seems to escape them. As you indicated that you wish me continue my association with NCIS I will, as you have requested, apply for status as a permanent member of NCIS. I expect that Gibbs will demand that I resign from Mossad, as though he believes that I would truly do so. However, if it is necessary that I appear to be no longer associated with Mossad I will inform you of said.

To ensure that my application is accepted, and thank you father for suggesting this path, I have already approached Agent Gibbs and laid in the ground work, alluding to the fact that I saw him as the closest thing to a Father I had left. These Americans can be so easily led by a few tears.

Agent DiNozzo is proving to be a harder date to peel. I may need to play the damsel in distress, and yes Father, you were right, knocking him down and accusing him of Michael's killing appears to have backfired. However, DiNozzo is a mindless lothario and a few deep breaths in his direction should engage his sexual desire for me once again.

The biggest challenge at the moment seems to be the medical examiner. Vance is behaving almost as though you had written the script for him but Dr. Mallard keeps insisting that I talk about my ordeal. Unfortunately he is far wilier that we were originally led to believe and any inconsistencies in my tale will be reported to Gibbs. So far, Gibbs has been assuring the ME that I will talk when I am ready but in the meantime could you please, Father, have a rape victim interrogated so that I can prepare my answers accordingly.

Yours,

Ziva
