Crap

Southland's been canceled. It's unlikely any of this season's episodes will air.

NBC is *so* stupid.

There's rumors that the network is going up for sale and they're trying to cut costs until it happens

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I heard something about that. Way to make it more sellable, guys.

short term vs long term thinking at work

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think far too many people fail to anticipate the long term.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. It's why I'm always so impressed with shows like Babylon 5 and SPN that have a well thought out multiseason arc

You know they had to be fans before they became creators.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
exactly. and they were SMART ones too

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
The kind that actually paid attention.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you had to have been a fan that got annoyed when canon contradicted itself to keep an eye on the kind of details that they are. Especially to keep filling in backstories and whatnot. (I mean, the fact we're *still* finding out about Dean's amulet makes me giddy

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely. If only more of us were in charge.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
It makes a huge difference. Even if it's just someone writing stories *they* want to see as opposed to what they think the target audience wants to see.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I'd actually rather see more of that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going for something actually watchable. Lord knows there's so little of that these days

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Have you heard about USA's new show "white Collar" starting up next week? It looks good

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't, but I do like a lot of USA's shows, so I'll definitely have to give that one a look.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
http://www.usanetwork.com/series/whitecollar/

The conman is played by an actor I really like (who also happens to be GUHworthy) so I'll be turning in

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo, looks quite interesting.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The commercials and whatnot I've seen for White Collar are good. And there's definitely a slashgoggle aspect between the two male leads. And the fact Matt Bomer is gorgeous doesn't hurt!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Now that I see that promo, I seem to think that I saw one little blip of a promo at some earlier date. He is pretty damn gorgeous.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
USA has been promoting it pretty well- promos here and there for awhile with a lot more showing in the past two weeks. Hopefully it'll create some good buzz.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think I came across it while perusing the PSYCH page on USA's site. I've yet to really meet a USA show I don't like.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-15 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
USA seems to have hit on an excellent formula of quirky, fun characters yet manage to make a semi-serious show with them

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously, they need to share their secret.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-16 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it has something to do with not treating your viewers like morons, but we all know that won't catch on.
