Things you do when the internet crashes...

Actually got some work on my rug done today while watching "Due South."

It's a little over 28 inches long and 13 inches wide.  I can't write worth crap lately, but I can still braid!

And.. minor "Due South" squee... (safe and spoilerfree)

Ray can't remember if he did or did not commit a crime and asks Fraser:

Ray: How do you know? How do you know? How can you be so sure?

Fraser: Because I know you. You're my partner. And you're my friend.

awwwwww

YES! I love that line SO MUCH. Because Ray's just kind of...lost and Fraser believes. ::squishes them::

Ooh, nice rug! I'm the world's worst about starting projects and never finishing them. I'd have, oh, 1/2 a rug here, 2/3 of one there...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really that moment Ray realized Fraser wasn't hanging around because Ray was pretending to be "Ray" but because of who he was. (errr, that made sense in my head)

Do you braid rugs too? or hook them? I have another started one also, but.. ehhh.. progress is hard

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-05 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that makes total sense. And it's true.

No, I've never made rugs. I've made wire jewelry, mosaics, and had a brief flirtation with embroidery, though. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-05 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
so you're familiar with the 'ehh, let me put it aside to work on later' idea... (and never pick it up again)

I wonder if Paul Gross is a huge curling fan, he's in a movie about it and they watch a lot of it in the episode

Oh, yeah. Very, very familiar.

I don't know about Paul Gross and curling, but if I had to make a bet, I'd go for "fan."

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2007-12-05 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He wasn't just in that movie, he wrote, directed, and wrote the music for it. I think of Men with Brooms as his love song to curling. *g*

Ooh, cool rug. My grandmother braids rugs (and knits and crochets literally 20 things a week). I love all those sorts of crafts. I'm currently working on cross-stitching bear ornaments. I have the opposite problem though - I can't stop! Not even when my hand is swollen and my shoulder hurts. Mum and I craft together, she's knitting a sweater right now. We usually do it while watching movies or DVDS (recently, the third season of due South).

*does not have an appropriate due South icon* Curse you LJ and your limited icon space!

Anyway, yay for due South! It's weird, I live in Canada and I have only met a handful of people who watch/watched due South in my neighbourhood. I was introduced to it by my brother's fiancée, who is a huge fan. I've met more people at livejournal (most of them not Canadian) who are fans than here, in Canada, where it was originally aired. The great thing about due South is, if you watch any other show made in Canada, you will find a due South actor on them at some point. They're everywhere. My friend's cousin, Polly Shannon, was on due South and in Men With Brooms (she was the rent-a-date). My brother's fiancée met Polly recently and Polly said 'she's very quiet isn't she?' and my friend said 'oh, she's just trying not to ask you about Paul Gross'. :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I used to do that much crafting, but damaged a tendon a bit back and had to stop. I crochet when I can though (although writing fanfic has cut into available time!).

I don't have a Due South icon either... hmmm, I'll have to do something about that. too funny about Polly!

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Not enough people do those sorts of crafts anymore, I don't think. It's becoming a lost art.

Incidentally, Polly replied 'Oh, you want to know about Paul!' and proceeded to rant. Apparently he's very nice, very smart, and can do a crossword puzzle really, really fast. If you're interested. :-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
that is so cool about Paul Gross! (I always like hearing when stars are actually nice people, it reaffirms my like of them)

That line for me really sums up the relationship between RayK and Fraser - quite different from RayV.

If you're interested, the third part of Best Coffee in the world is now up here (http://hellenebright.livejournal.com/22076.html). Be warned, the guys finally got around to porn.

OK, make that here (http://hellenebright.livejournal.com/25163.html)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
isn't that quote the best? Sigh Ray and Fraser make me happy. *runs to read porn*

[identity profile] hellenebright.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
That one, and the one in call of the wild, where Ray K says "so...what? Are we still partners?" and Fraser says "If you'll have me." And Ray just shrugs and says "Come on," but that shrug says *so* much.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
oh yeah... I love that scene!!!

[identity profile] eumenidis.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Reminds me of a braided rug my grandmother made for me when I was a little girl. Granny had so many skills.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
it's really not that hard to do, it's just basic braiding. It's just time consuming

[identity profile] eumenidis.livejournal.com 2007-12-06 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Time I've got, but with my nephews' Xmas presents (Ah! Legos! Run away!) in the back bedroom, no space. Well, there'll be a window between New Year's & Easter.

And what's wrong with Lego?

I love your rug. Rug braiding is one of those things I meant to try, once upon a time. When I was a kid there was a family I spent a lot of time with, and they had this round braided rug that totally fascinated me because it had all kinds of interesting things woven in it, including what I would have sworn were Wrigley's Doublemint wrappers.

Actually, I should probably ask about that rug. My mom's still friends with the mom of that family.

Eee, I forgot! "Asylum" is one of my favorite RayK episodes. "I just made a curling reference. I gotta lie down." And Men With Brooms is hilarious.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
If you can braid you can braid a rug, it's really not much more than that, although the rug you mention sounds facinating. This one is a mix of wool from jackets I picked up at rummage sales and cloth I bought in fabric stores.

I LOVED the curling bits. And that line of Ray's is priceless. Also the whole "canadian soil" bit and having to collect the guns!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww *pets Fraser* that's a great thing for him to say...

And congratulations on the ruggage even though I'd rather you were writing ♥

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
congratulations on the ruggage even though I'd rather you were writing ♥

I think that's the sweetest thing anyone's said to me in the longest time

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it's true. I used to cross stitch when I couldn't write but when I did my back in I couldn't sit up long enough to sew. I could balance a laptop on my knees while lying down though and *that's* when I got into making icons :-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-08 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
and you've developed a terribly useful skill as a result!
