If you're curious if a pan that's been in the oven for an hour is hot the answer is yes.

I am an idiot.

(big red splotchy burn, no blisters)

Oh good grief, I know this one from experience. If it's not glowing, steaming or otherwise giving some *visual* indication of its temperature, I am incapable of remembering it's hot.

*sends ice and sympathy*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*ooh ice, that's better* I hate to say it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh baby *hugs*

You kept it in cold water for at *least* ten minutes? Didn't you!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
ran cold water over it for about 5 min and then held an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) on it for another 10 or so

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Owwwww. Even if it's not blistering, I know it hurts. Ice is your friend!

I can't seem to clear my arms of the inside of the oven door. It's *inside* the oven, I should know it's hot, too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I've done that too, but not as often and usually by accident.

This was just SO dumb- it's cast iron, of course it's going to be hot!

I'm going to ice it again soon. 10 min on 20 off if I remember my first aide correctly

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that this burns, but I can't seem to clear doorways. My shoulders and hips are constantly bruised. My spatial sense is FAIL.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG- I was going to post yesterday that it was my opinion that doorways shift as you try to go through them, just to make you smack into them!

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
OW. Really sorry to hear that.

If it helps any, I've done it too, more than once...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugsies* thanks, in a way it helps to know others have done it to

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch >.<
Don't worry, I'm silly today too. I thought a beaker that had been on a bunsen burner for ten minutes wouldn't be hot and lifted it off with bare hands.

Lavender is fantastic for burns and scalds, even if you use it neat (it's better in aloe vera gel if you can get it). If you do use it neat only use a a couple of drops on unbroken skin, it will ease any pain and stop blistering. The use of neat lavender oil on burns is what prompted Tisserand to investigate the properties of essential oils, thus giving birth to aromatherapy as we know it.

lavender essential oil? Straight on the burn?

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh, ouch. {{hugs}}

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :) It's a lot better now. Next time I think I'll use the oven mitt though!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-09-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have so done that. Hope your hand's feeling better by now! *pets*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's almost all better- a little tight and tingly in the spot that got burned the worst. Still feel VERY dumb about it though.

[identity profile] t-mystery01.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
*hug* my sympathies. I am a bit of a klutz myself so much so hubby installed a fire extinguisher and first aide kit in the kitchen just in case. The kit has been used so often that I need to restock it!!!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
oooh, smart hubby!

[identity profile] darthhellokitty.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I've done that SO MANY TIMES.

My husband picked up a dish from the oven once, it sort of sloshed over on his arm and left a triangular brand that lasted MONTHS.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
oh OUCH, poor guy!

It's amazing the things we do without thinking twice about it!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch. I've so done that before.

Here, have some naked hide and seek.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
naked hide and seek is the cure for all, right?
