Crap

Southland's been canceled. It's unlikely any of this season's episodes will air.

NBC is *so* stupid.

I would love for CBS or someone to pick up the show and make millions off of it, just to show NBC (and, you know, to keep the show alive).

Last I heard here's a vague chance TNT will pick it up. CBS is actually doing amazingly well right now. NBC is in the toilet though and this won't help

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome. I think they'd do well on TNT.

there's a twitter campaign and a petition (http://twitition.com/n3tvb) and some other attempts to show fans' dismay. The press is not happy with NBC either- a lot of insiders are saying it damages the ability for the network to get projects in the future

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, now I've signed the petition.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to sign up with a network that could cut you at any moment without notice.

out of 22 hours of primetime programming NBC now airs 7 hours of scripted shows. SEVEN. That's less than the WB which only has 10 hours of primetime programming to start with

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
And they wonder why they're doing so poorly.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
utterly shocking, right? Their top rated drama right now is L&O:SVU which is in 40th place. FORTIETH!!!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
and they are apparently locked into the Jay Leno show for TWO YEARS. God knows how bad a shape the network will be in by then

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
That's assuming they still have a network by then.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
When cable channels are beating your ratings... that's not a good sign

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Saving money should never be ALL that you are aiming for. Because when you boil it all down you still need to be able to sell ad time. And if you can't it doesn't matter how little you spend to produce your shows because you won't be able to bring in enough to break even.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
It makes you wonder who's in charge over there.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
whoever it is, they don't have a CLUE

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe no one's in charge. It's total anarchy over at NBC.

If only.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
There's rumors that the network is going up for sale and they're trying to cut costs until it happens

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I heard something about that. Way to make it more sellable, guys.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
short term vs long term thinking at work

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think far too many people fail to anticipate the long term.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. It's why I'm always so impressed with shows like Babylon 5 and SPN that have a well thought out multiseason arc

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
You know they had to be fans before they became creators.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
exactly. and they were SMART ones too

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
The kind that actually paid attention.
