Thought it'd be an interesting question to ask: what's your favorite horror film that was released in the year you were born. Perhaps you've never watched one.

Of recent years and past years, horror has had a diverse collection of psychologically-centric horror narratives. Which horror movie that you’ve seen, do you think had the most psychologically impacting story and why?

Did this film leave with dread as you watched it? Did it have you feeling paranoid once the movie ended? Or was the story just that dark that you cannot stop thinking about it?

Been binge watching this franchise lately and can't get enough of it tbh.

The first 4 movies and Jason lives for me are the strongest of the franchise. Honorable mentions to the 2009 reboot and the new blood (wish the mpaa didn't butcher it)

Shoebox of Dreams Kept Under My Bed

Speaking of making a good start on some new year’s resolutions, I thought I’d break myself easy with the re-read/re-watch project with something fairly short.

I was, for reasons, re-reading a bunch of raven’s fic the other night and came across and re-read their Piranesi fic from yuletide (I think?) a few years back. It reminded me how much I enjoyed the book and made me want to re-read it. In a remarkably sensible move, given that I was just sitting at my computer reading fic and chilling to classical music, I got up and grabbed it from the shelf, sat back down and started reading it, planning just to read the first chapter before bed to get me started on the project. I read half the book that night and the rest of it the following morning. (I pretty much only didn’t just stay up stupid late because I got uncomfortable in my desk chair and in getting up to decant to the sofa realised the time and reluctantly made the sensible choice to go to bed.

Here be Spoilers )

I only managed to finish two fic for [community profile] fandomtrees this round. I was thrilled to be inspired to write in an old fandom and to revist a fic I wrote for a previous round. I hope you enjoy!

Title: Winter Wonderland
Author: Spikedluv
Fandom: The Sentinel (tv)
Rating: PG13/Slash
Pairing/Characters: Jim/Blair
Length: 1,600 words
Spoilers: Nothing specifically, but for entire series to be safe.
Summary: "Don't be mad," Blair said.

"Well, it's not auspicious that those are the first words you say to me when I walk in the door."
Author's Notes: Written for [personal profile] pattrose for [community profile] fandomtrees. One of her fandom requests was for: The Sentinel, Jim/Blair with a like of kid!fic and first times. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write Jim/Blair again! I hope you enjoy what I came up with! Title from the song of the same name. (It's snowing in the story, it was snowing outside when I posted it, I think you can see why this title came to my mind. *g*)
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated.

Title: But What If There Was a Demon vs Dinosaur Cage Match?
Author: Spikedluv
Fandom: Angel: the Series(tv)[/Primeval (tv)]
Rating: PG13/Het
Pairing/Characters: Dawn/Connor & Faith
Length: 1,935 words
Spoilers: Takes place post-series, but no real spoilers unless you don't know who Dawn and Connor are. o_O. General spoilers for the concept of Primeval (dinosaurs!).
Summary: "Dinosaurs?" Faith said, sounding dubious after Dawn and Connor had given their account of their experience with Jennifer and the Triceratops.
Author's Notes: Takes place post-Some Things You See With Your Eyes . . . Written for [personal profile] cornerofmadness for [community profile] fandomtrees. They asked for Angel: the Series, Dawn/Connor, mission. This is a follow-up to the last Dawn/Connor [community profile] fandomtrees fic I wrote for you. It's more ‘between missions', but there's bonus Faith! I hope you enjoy it!
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated.

i love horror, but i find myself getting scared too easily - and personally i'm not a huge fan of the jumping feeling that you get when you get jumpscared, but i absolutely adore atmosphere and spookiness.

is it possible to just eventually lessen that feeling through exposure??

Martial arts star Bruce Leung Siu-lung passed away on January 14, 2026, at the age of 77. His family has chosen to handle funeral arrangements privately, with a farewell ceremony tentatively scheduled for January 26 in Shenzhen, China. Before his passing, Leung was seen dining with friends. According to those present, he appeared in high spirits, making the sudden news of his death all the more shocking.

Known for his passion for martial arts, Bruce Leung studied Wing Chun and other disciplines from a young age. Recognized in Hong Kong cinema as a genuinely skilled fighter, he entered the film industry at just 15 years old as a stunt double before taking on starring roles, including playing the titular role of Chen Zhen in the 1982 television series The Fist. He retired from acting for nearly two decades before making an iconic return as the villain in the 2004 film Kung Fu Hustle.

Before his passing, Bruce Leung was also highly active on Chinese social media, where he shared moments from his daily life and martial arts prowess. His friends also said that he had always been physically strong. Stars like Jackie Chan, Stephen Chow and Wu Jing paid tribute to his lasting influence on martial arts cinema. Update: Bruce Leung’s cause of death has been revealed to be due to cardiac arrest. Contrary to the birth year of 1948 listed online, his family clarified that the late actor was born on August 9, 1951 and would’ve been 75 this year.

I haven't actually written anything since... ::checks notes:: last November, which now feels approximately 800 years ago.

But yeah, this process seems familiar:

STEP 1: write a sentence
STEP 2: this is going great! 1000 words? I've got this
STEP 3: get distracted
STEP 4: it's been three hours and I still only have one sentence, this is going terribly
STEP 5: maybe I should come back to it tomorrow?
STEP 6: okay, focus, I can do this, right? maybe just try to write ONE SENTENCE

And then repeat from the beginning!

I'm currently stalled out at 650ish words. ::tempts myself back towards the fic tab with cookies:: Maybe just ONE SENTENCE?

Germany unfortunately produces a lot of run of the mill comedies, dramas and history films due to how production in Germany is constructed but from time to time a movie or series is made which goes against the stream. Der Nachtmahr, english The Nightmare is one of those.

The protagonist is Tina, a teenage girl who has basically everything and is at the height of her life until a fateful party night, that begins with a picture of a deformed baby, shared by a friend in the car at the way to the party. Tina isn't pleased by the picture which shows a photo of her morphing to the deformed baby and equally not pleased as someone at the party shares a video of a girl hit by a car.

The start of the movie, accompanied by really intense electronic music and visuals which definitely made the warning before the movie necessary, is the start of a nightmare for Tina. After the party she is hit by a car, just like the girl in the video and the baby starts haunting her, appearing in her kitchen first and developing in a strange connection, while no one else is able to see it, leading to downward spiral.

The movie creates an out of the loop atmosphere, it jumps fromo event to event, making you question how much time has actually passed and what is real or just in the head, even though it's still easier to follow than some genre representatives.

My only gripe with the movie really was the dialouge, which was a bit slow and sometimes had this issue of people i.e. asking a question without an answer, which I am not a big fan of in general. There was some good acting here though and the creature itself was made really well, like.. I would expect some really bad CGI here in such a small production but instead it seems to have been a puppet and feel nicely real? Kudos to the production here!

Overall a great experience, good cinematography, great music and sound. I really wish Germany wouldn't be so stuck in the ordinary, there is so much untapped potential.
