Why this vid kicks ass:

This vid made me fall in love with the Magnificent Seven, it truly encompasses everything the series is about- seven men from all walks of life who had been loners, just trying to get by, but by coming together they each found a part of themselves and people not only to believe in but who would believe in them.

Why this must be read:

Other than Nathan being a stretcher bearer and learning his medical skills, the War Between the States is not mentioned in canon, thus giving some interesting fodder for backstories of the other seven. In this story the ever astute Vin notices Ezra not quite enjoying the July fourth festivities as much as the others and approaches him to talk about it. I really enjoy the way the two men read each other and bond over shared backgrounds in this story.

Why this must be read:

Technically a sequel to the noncrossover Appearances (although I read this one first) this story delves into the idea of having to face one's mistakes and the need to get all the facts before passing judgment. As a result of which Vin decides not to send his father (Airwolf's Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III) away when the man comes calling.

Why this must be read:

This story is set in the Escorts AU (where the Seven are, like it says on the tin, 'escorts') and features the very hard to find pairing of Vin/Josiah. I'll be honest, I never thought this was a pairing that could work, but farad had no problem convincing me otherwise. Torques is also a very interesting story because it was written to take the old fandom cliché of loving one's rapist and make it believable and it succeeds in doing just that.

What is and what isn't deemed 'acceptable' has changed quite a bit since the days of the Old West yet JIN is able to paint a detailed and understandable picture of the decisions Nathan must make, and his resulting actions, when it appears Vin has fallen in love with a black woman, something Nathan believes will end in bloodshed. And it does....
