Whoops, haven't been posting since I usually wait to do so until I have stuff to talk about but I got stuck in a 'need to finish h/c assignment before I do other things, have so many other things to do can't concentrate on h/c assignment' vicious cycle. I still am in said cycle, but oh well.

After the snow on the 1st we had a ridiculous warm front move in and it went from low/mid 30s to 80s and 90s (from give or take 0C-34C) and in just a few days ALL of the snow was basically gone, despite it being one of the snowiest winters in ages. It then cooled back down to the 30s and now has gone into more typical late April 40s/50s (4-10C) but the hot weather made me realize I needed to think ahead for baking. Lately I've been baking once or twice a week or so to make sure son has both cookies and bread/muffins to take in to work since he's got a very physical labor intensive job and I am a jewish mother who worries about her son not eating enough. There's no way I will be able to keep doing that if it's a stupidly hot summer so I decided I'd start baking basically every other day or so and freezing half or more of each batch.

I don't even remember everything I've made, lots of jumbo muffins and quick breads like coffee cake muffins, peanut butter banana chocolate chip muffins, butterscotched bread, and unpictured regular banana chocolate chip muffins as well as bread, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, etc...

and so many cookies: triple chocolate chip, kitchen sink cookies (aka all the bits and bobs of chips and M&Ms I had sitting around), cornmeal cookies, M&M cookies, nutella chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip, regular chocolate chip cookies, etc etc. Only a few pictures of these:

So much effort, so much tasty results. (Also so many baking supplies used, I keep buying what I think will be enough to 'stock up' but then using it all and having to buy more.)

and have a month of [profile] recthethings Untamed/MDZS fic recs:

Core-Thieving Hand by x_los (5k)
Summary: Too clever for their own good, Wen Qing and Wei Wuxian develop a form of cultivation that could bring an end to the war. It could also bring an end to the world they know. (very interesting Golden-Core-transfer-going-differently canon divergent AU)

The Ballad of Hanguang-Jun and The Yiling Patriarch by Theladyofravenclaw (40k)
Summary: An eccentric playwright writes an entire play about Wei Wuxian after being saved by him and Wen Qing, however, it's not entirely accurate. What they get wrong and how it changes the public's opinion of the Yiling Patriarch through the art of theater. (what it says on the tin slightly cracky and fun canon divergent AU.)

call my name (but only if you mean it) by sortablue (27k)
Summary Snippet: War was coming. Every day the sun burned hotter. The Wen would take, and take, and take, and the sects must be ready if they were to withstand the heat. If the Jiang could not ally themselves with someone besides the ever-fickle Jin, they would burn; their docks would stain with blood. (In war, sacrifices must be made. Wei Wuxian was all too familiar with the concept of sacrifice.) (this new WWX-marries-into-the-lan arranged marriage AU ends a bit abruptly but was still quite good)

Every Mother's Son by Chrononautical (11k)
Summary: When the former Madam Lan hears that the new Sect Leader Lan married a criminal who is kept in the same house where she once lived, she has only one choice. She has to return to Cloud Recesses to rescue Wei Wuxian! (Set post-canon, an excellent take on the 'what if Madam Lan lived but escaped' AU)

if love was red, then he was colorblind by locketofyourhair (33k)
Summary Snippet: On soulmates and fate and the rules on which you should live your life (A canon compliant soulmate fic with interesting world building and a look at what might and might not be different as a result)

The Needle and the Nail by littledust (119k)
Summary Snippet: Wen Qing turns up at Dafan Mountain at the same time that "Mo Xuanyu" does. She can't remember the past thirteen years, and every time she tries, she ends up in incredible pain. There must be a curse at work. Fortunately, Sect Leader Jiang has offered her his unconditional assistance. (Recently finished, this is a wonderful look at what if WQ didn't die when she turned herself into the Jins with a great WQ POV and voice)

Long Story Short: Ghosts Are Real by cottonee (25k)
Summary Snippet: Wei Ying moves into a haunted building. He doesn't believe in ghosts. (Quirky and fun modern AU with an oblivious-to-the-modern-cultivation WWX)

Found in the Sharpness of Contrasts by nickel710 (35k)
Summary Snippet: Or, in which two resident scientist-mages in an Antarctic research base make their own problems, then try to solve them, but must first survive them. (This modern-with-cultivation AU has absolutely incredible world building with a great adventure for WWX and LWJ)

The Commonwealth of Jianghu v. Jiang Cheng by nevertheless (nev_longbottom) (4.6k)
Summary:
FACTS: Wei Ying alias Wuxian was suspected of criminal activity. The Commonwealth of Jianghu obtained a warrant for arrest. The arresting officers were in pursuit when Wei died in view of officers and surviving heirs. Legal heirs claimed the suspect's qiankun pouch off his body and refused to turn over to arresting party. The Commonwealth of Jianghu brought an action against defendant Jiang for refusing to surrender Wei property. Defendant Jiang appealed, arguing that the Commonwealth had a warrant against Wei not Jiang therefore warrant did not entitle the Commonwealth to the property.

ISSUE: Whether law enforcement can require a surviving estate to surrender the property of a deceased suspect on a warrant in the name of the deceased.

ANSWER: No

Click through to see the full summary judgement! (this entire story is the legal documents regarding to a case before the 'sublime court of the Jianghu' regarding the case as mentioned, incredibly original method for a fanfic and works really well)

geospatial metadata by elanoides (3k)
Summary: So: waiting, in the evening, for the alert to appear, so that the herpetology records may be updated with the latest snakes, lizards, turtles, and frogs that Wei Ying has collected in the “Burial Mounds”. There is no location data associated with this name, no matter how many geolocation requests are submitted. (Nie Huaisang once claimed to know where the Burial Mounds are, but Nie Huaisang also claims that shadow boxes are a responsible method of arthropod preservation, so Lan Wangji has his doubts. The pinned butterflies are, however, very beautiful.) (or: a snapshot of a natural history museum collection au, feat. herpetologist WWX, botanist LWJ, remote access, and coming home.) (at only 3k, this is just a brief look into the AU world of specimen collecting WWX and how interesting LWJ finds him, but it's a good one)

Hooray for Murder! by wearing_tearing (47k)
Summary Snippet: Wei Wuxian: okay i’ll let you make this terrible mistake... And that’s how Wei Wuxian becomes a bestselling author and finds fame at the tender age of twenty-one. (delightful WWX as an mystery author modern murder mystery AU)

Lanterns To Guide You Home by cuttlefeeeeeeeeesh (7.5k)
Summary: The next time he saw the seal, his searching gaze found no more certainty in the pattern of mottled black spots in the sleek, short fur, but there was no question that it was the same seal. It rolled before diving, showing a flash of the same brand that had marred the chest of the sealcoat and made it cheap enough for him to buy. -------- Years after their marriage, Wei Wuxian returns from the sea. (lots of hinted at world building and backstory to this short selkie AU)
