Janette sipped leisurely, the glass heavy in her hand. The manager had considered her mad for ordering them. Waterford crystal, far too decadent and expensive for a mere nightclub. “You buy glasses by the gross, it’s what everyone does,” he’d said.
Mortals.
What did they know? Rushing about, frantically living their lives in the blink of an eye. They failed to understand the importance of permanence, the superior feeling of knowing you had something that would last forever; that was what she desired, the existence she craved. Seeing Nicholas approach, she smiled. “To what do I owe the pleasure, Detective?”
