I was trying to put together a comprehensive post on writercon, but I give up. So here's the first babble on it, and I apologize for the multiple posts that might be cluttering up flists eventually.

Apparently this year's writercon was small, only 150 or so attendees. This being the first one I attended (first con ever, actually) I can't comment on that, but I thought it was a good size overall. Panels ran for 1 1/2 hours but were spread throughout the day. Not surprisingly the 10-11:30 ones I attended seemed to have a smaller turnout.

On a random, but interesting note, out of the 140/150 people at writercon this year there were maybe 5 guys. *waves to [livejournal.com profile] bastardsnowand [livejournal.com profile] invisible_lift* The interesting thing I always thought about LJ and most usernames is you never quite know who is who and what sex, race, religion, etc they might be. I still remember going in to buy comics one day right after getting back to college and the clerk's wide eyed gaping exclamation of "But... you're a girl!" so I know a little about going against stereotype, but it was interesting to talk to them about it in fandom/fanfic.

Torchwood, or CoE anyway, was brought up a LOT, in many different panels. As good ways fans react and show their displeasure towards the writers (the various charities) to the poor grace RTD showed in interviews, to how CoE's use/misuse of tropes affected how people interpreted it (more on that later and elsewhere I think.)
