NPT and babble
Apr. 20th, 2018 09:37 amSignups for NPT, a medium sized fandom (aka the larger Yuletide eligible ones up to anything smaller than the powerhouse fandoms with 20k+ fics) fic exchange are happening now (info post and sign up form). I'm actually debating signing up this year instead of just trying to treat or maybe snagging a pinch hit.
I'm hampered slightly by not keeping up with so many shows. While not necessarily active in the fandoms, I used to always be watching/be up to date on the most recently aired episodes of a lot of different canons and now that is just not the case. It's funny, I'm looking at these announcements of show renewals and keep seeing show after show that I used to watch but quit for various reasons. In a lot of ways I think ongoing canons are harder than ones that ended (either since they were once-off movies or shows that got cancelled) because there's more opportunity to disappoint you either with plot issues or having the characters take turns you weren't expecting/don't like, etc.
When there's only one season/one movie (to quote Tom Petty) the future is wide open. There's a ton of plot bits/backstory/character quirks/etc you can play around with and flesh out. But as more and more of it is filled in with canon there's more of a chance those additions will go against how you thought of things or what you were hoping would be revealed, etc.
Sometimes it works just fine, but frequently that's not that case. I think that's why so often people bemoan about shows cancelled before their time or complain about shows going on too long. Not that I want shows to be cancelled or for them to stop making MCU movies or whatever but it's hard for a canon to find of that sweet spot of bowing out before mucking up too much yet after realizing their potential.
Anyway... babble over. Go take a look at the NPT tagset and think about signing up!
