There's just a few more days to sign up for this round of [community profile] multifandomdrabble. I actually signed up this time (usually I just treat). It started over at imzy and has hand matching so a little different than some of the usual exchanges but it's fun.

I nommed (and requested) a short (35min) Chinese film called 'Wúliàng' that I wrote up a promo for since I figured few will have heard about it. A non-spoilery summary would be that secrets (basically an incredibly powerful cultivation manual) were tattooed on the body of a blind young man, Po Xiao, and Feng Reng has been tasked with getting him to safety but it's so much more than that. It's an incredibly atmospheric story of obligation and trust and heartbreaking devotion that's amazingly shot and beautifully acted.

Tumblr user ohsehuns did a fan translation of it and it can be watched on dailymotion here, the password to access it is "wuliang" (content warning for typical wuxia/xiania-type violence though)

I also nommed and requested the CDrama 'Detective L', a 1930s Shanghai set detective show that's basically everything I'd hoped BBC's Sherlock would be. The lead, Luo Fei, is an incredibly clever consulting detective for the police department but his partner, Qin Xiao Man, is the department's first female detective and she graduated top of her class and kicks ass on a regular basis. There's also a great supporting cast including awkwardly sweet Ben Jie Ming, the coroner and Luo Fei's old friend. Its cases are told over 3 (30ish minute) episode arcs with some overarching story points that come together over the last group of episodes. All 24 episodes are available for free on wetv or youtube. If you do give it a shot make sure to keep an eye out for the little story shorts after e3 and e6 for some amazing Qin Xiao Man content.

Bah, I'm not very good at writing up promos, but both canons are *so* good and not surprisingly there's no fandom for either. I might also request them for yuletide this year.

Have some recthething recs! (Guardian and Untamed/MDZS, fic and art)

Yiling Poltergeist by jaemyun (16k)
Summary Snippet: Lan Wangji moves into a new apartment, hoping for a quiet existence. For the most part he gets it, aside from the occasional inexplicable happening. The Wens, the Jiangs, and the Lan brothers try to figure out who's haunting Lan Wangji's new apartment, and Lan Wangji wonders why the dark, beautiful man who pokes his head into his dreams seems so familiar. (Very interesting modern AU but still mostly canon compliant fic)

falling peach blossoms by AStarlightMonbebe (3.5k)
Summary: Lan Zhan searches for a place of eternal spring with only a dream of blossoming peach trees, a red ribbon, and the smile of a man whose name he has forgotten. (beautifully evocative reincarnation/past lives/immortals fic)

Fate and Choice by Winglesss (6k)
Summary: Wei Wuxian's magic isn't very impressive, but he loves his gift. His ability to bring art to life isn't going to save the world, but he likes making people's lives more colorful with animated tattoos. He helps people, too, helps remove soul marks with his unique magic. As he prepares for one of these appointments, he braces for yet another sad story. To his surprise, this one isn't - until he sees his own soul mark on his client. (incredibly interesting magic powers/soulmate AU with amazing world building)

Gusu Lan Restorations series by fuddy_duddy (rainier_day) (2 works currently, 27k)
Summary for first fic: A stranger shows up at the studio with a heavily damaged painting and Sizhui wonders if it was a mistake to accept the job on his father's behalf. (Completely IC and wonderful modern art AU. The second fic has the juniors hilariously conspiring to figure out WWX and LWJ's relationship. So well done.)

monsters cannot break her stride by Stratisphyre (3.5k)
Summary snippet: In the last days of a losing battle, Lan Xichen seeks out the only person potentially capable of helping turn the tides against Wen Ruohan. (absolutely fascinating JYL lives AU that I will not spoil any aspect of other than to say the worldbuilding, plot and characterizations were all wonderful)

Guardian fic:
The strange, bizarre, very unusual day of Zhao Yunlan by BlackwaterVial (7k)
Summary: Zhao Yunlan is happy with his life. He has a stable job in a large firm, where he works as a consultant on financial matters. He has a nice little flat in the middle of the city, right above a bakery, where each morning he is woken by the smell of freshly baked bread. And, of course, he has a wonderful little dog because dogs are a man’s best friend, aren’t they? (Not wanting to give the twist away, I'll just say this was a delightful way to have an alternate setting while not being an AU)

Absolutely gorgeous set of Untamed/MDZS tumblr art of WWX and LWJ sitting in matching poses.

I finished reading the Guardian novel. I liked it, but with reservations. I might try a few other CNovels later when I've some more time.
