So, watched the second half of the oldschool serial Doctor Who and the Silurians with my son today.  While the story was interesting enough, there were a bunch of brain breaking scientific moments.

The bad guys are called the Silurians because of a brief note in the evil doctor's papers about the Silurian era.  Son looks at me, "I thought it was the Silurian Period?"  But, that really a minor detail, because apparently the creatures call themselves Silurians... err, sure, why not?

The Silurians went into status because they were worried about a planet (what became the moon) crashing into the Earth.  Son looks at me, "what?"

The Silurians hate humans (or Ape-men, as they call them) and explain their plan for humanity telling a story about how they once tried too kill off "the monkeys that stole from their gardens" -- Son pauses the DVD.  "Monkeys?  And Dinosaurs?  At the same time?  These writers didn't pay much attention in science class, did they?"

No they didn't.  We still enjoyed the serial though.
